The ability to say “no” to people, to ideas, and to things in general is something we need to learn in order to become highly successful. Successful companies are generally very specialised and have a relatively narrow product range. When Steve Jobs came back and took over Apple he apparently fired over 3000 people and scaled back the range of products from around 350 to 10. Focus. Saying yes to every seemingly great opportunity that comes by will distract you and take away valuable time from your main endeavour. 

This does not mean you should not be ready to seize good opportunities when they arise. In fact you should constantly be vigilant and keep an eye out for opportunities – especially those that are in line with your main focus in life. But make sure you pick the right ones. Most will be the wrong ones – so learn how to say no, or stay forever in a state of distraction.
