HABITS & SYSTEMS

Have you ever set a goal to lose weight (or gain weight), and go to the gym 3 times per week? Many people have, and many people fail in their grand endeavours to lose weight, gain weight, get more fit, eat healthier, get rich or get that promotion – because they throw in the towel too quickly. We want results NOW, not later. That’s why some people “make it”, while others sit on the couch eating pizza and drinking beer watching the successful people on the screen kick ass.
The difference between the “lucky” who succeed, and those who do not? Habits and systems, and the patience to grind away until that “magic moment” appears – which it will, if you’re willing to get back to work day after day, week after week, year after year – until you hit the jackpot.
Don’t just set a goal – create a system for whatever it is you want to achieve. This means creating good habits. Losing 10 kg by the summer is a losing goal. When you’ve reached it, chances are you’ll get back to your bad habits. Create a system for getting fit instead, for life. Go to the gym, go for a walk, go for a run daily, or a few times a week until it becomes a habit, a good habit. This goes for anything you want to achieve – become a better partner (might mean more compliments every day or buying flowers at least once a week), become better at a sport (might involve a system for practicing), or whatever you want to achieve. And, STICK TO IT – the breakthrough usually only comes after sticking to it until you break through. Your system will be unique to you, because you are unique, so design the system to your liking and to your lifestyle.
Happy days – now go and put some good systems and habits in place!
